I would like to know if there is a setting I may have overlooked or if there is another reason why my custom groups are not showing up in the user profile dropdown menu.

When you create or manage your custom groups, pay attention to the Group details, specifically the setting for

Group type:
This determines which users can join or view this group. Options are one of:

• Open
• Request
• Closed
• Hidden

If your user groups are not showing up then perhaps you have set them as a Hidden group type.
